The Plantin-Moretus Museum is well represented in the Flemish masterpiece list. Recently two hundred drawings have been added to this list. Works by fixed values Peter Paul Rubens, Anthony van Dyck and Jacob Jordaens. But also the likes of Hendrick van Balen, Otto van Veen, Jan Fijt and others are now represented.

Summer expo

From 11 July, a high day for the Flemish Community, a selection of 25 unique drawings from the seventeenth century will be on display in the museum. They are studies, designs and independent works of art. Almost all artists worked - for a shorter or longer period of time - in Antwerp, then the artistic center of the Southern Low Countries. The expo runs until 30 August.

"This summer exhibition is just a foretaste of our plans for 2023. Then we plan an exhibition with 100 Flemish masterpieces, 100 drawings that are recognized as Flemish masterpiece"

12-year-old Rubens

Eye-catcher is a sketchbook that Peter Paul Rubens made when he was 12 years old. It is one of the earliest known drawings by the artist. He made these sketches as a starting artist after a series of 16th-century prints with the Dance of Death by Hans Holbein, and these already testify to his great talent. Copying prints was part of the training of artists and was often recommended at the time of Rubens.
