You get it in black and white: every euro you donate is put to good use. And it goes entirely to the museum’s daily operations. The goal: keeping the Museum Plantin-Moretus alive, engaging, and relevant for society. Does that sound a bit vague? We’re happy to make it concrete. This is what we do with your support:
- The restoration of existing works and the acquisition of new ones.
For example: the Verplancke bequest enabled the museum to strengthen the collection with a print by Brueghel and an atlas by Ortelius.
- Historical research into the use and function of old materials.
For instance, through the Fonds Dirickx at the King Baudouin Foundation, the museum launched a scientific project to accurately date the old printing presses (by analysing the tree rings in the wood).
- Digitisation of the various collections to make them as accessible as possible, both to researchers and to the wider public.
- The development of projects that reach specific target groups:
– Drukfiets: a mobile print shop on two wheels that visits schools and playgrounds to introduce children to the printing process.
– Collaborations with NT2 programmes: shared reading sessions, interactive tours, tailored teaching materials, and more.
– Participation projects with visitors and neighbourhood residents.
