About us

The original residence and workshop of the Plantin-Moretus publishing family is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The history of the book, the art of printing, and entrepreneurial spirit resonates through the creaking oak floors. Here you will find the world’s oldest printing presses, and much more.

About us

Unique world heritage

The Museum Plantin-Moretus tells the story of three centuries of family history and entrepreneurship: with the world’s oldest printing presses, family portraits painted by house artist Peter Paul Rubens, and the original Garamond typeface found on computers everywhere. Both the site and the archive are recognised as UNESCO World Heritage.

Recognised as UNESCO World Heritage

There is exactly one museum on the UNESCO World Heritage List: the Museum Plantin-Moretus. Thanks to the unique combination of a prestigious patrician residence, a centuries-old workshop, and - now for 150 years - an outstanding museum. Added to that is an almost intact business archive dating back to 1555, recognised by UNESCO.

Naturally, certain conditions apply. Please note: the Museum Plantin-Moretus has a loan freeze in place until January 2027.
