Who still remembers Carolus Clusius (1526–1609)? He introduced the tulip to Antwerp and familiarised us with potatoes, beans, and salsify. Christoffel Plantijn and his successors printed Clusius’s books.
Clusius was born five hundred years ago. We mark the occasion with an exhibition featuring the most beautiful flowers and plants from the museum’s own collections, spanning the 16th to the 20th century. The inner garden has also been newly laid out, inspired by Clusius’s Hortus Botanicus Leiden.
Join us on a historical journey of discovery through nature in five themes. Stroll past wild plants, trees, and mushrooms on paper. Enjoy ornamental flowers from the garden, and admire delicious vegetables and fruit.
