Leading Ladies: Women’s Business / Businesswomen

tour for adults

For 300 years, women lived, worked, and moved through the printing house of the Plantin-Moretus family — not standing behind the men, but beside them. It’s about time we told their stories!

In 2025, we’re highlighting these multifaceted women in various ways. At seven locations throughout the museum, you’ll meet daughters, mothers, housewives, maids, and business leaders — all telling their stories in their own words. And we won’t be doing it alone: fashion designer Tim Van Steenbergen and the REantwerp atelier, writer Aya Sabi, Dutch language learners from the Encora reading club, and storyteller Sven Speybrouck all contribute.

Fortunately, we don’t have to make these stories up. The Museum Plantin-Moretus holds over 200 metres of archival material — thousands of sheets of paper: letters, notes, diaries, account books, ledgers, and administration. And within all that, we find countless traces of the women who lived and worked here over the centuries.
Discover it all during a fascinating guided tour. Men are welcome too.
